A Coalition featured in our publication, Pivoting During a Pandemic, was Building a Safer Evansville (BASE). BASE was committed to modeling public health best practices so they went virtual in a big way.
They held virtual contests, including “Safer at Home” and “Show Us Your Prom.” Local businesses supported these efforts by providing prizes. The coalition also hosted a police officer-led story-time for youth featuring age-appropriate books on resilience, staying strong, and mental health.
During PRIDE month, BASE staff set up a photo booth in front of the office and encouraged community members to use it or send in their PRIDE pictures. At the end of the month, they created a PRIDE parade video with the pictures they received.
To support teachers, BASE staff created a Google Classroom. The virtual classroom website included icons of resources (Want to Quit Vaping, Think Don’t Drink, Everyone is Welcome Here, etc.), which linked teachers to additional information on the topic.
